I built the app I wished existed.
Nine Months is a pregnancy tracker made for partners - not bolted onto an app built for someone else. Here's the story, how it works, and what it stands for.
What Nine Months is
Nine Months is a pregnancy tracker built specifically for partners - dads, future dads, and anyone supporting someone through pregnancy.
Enter a due date once. From then on, the app always shows the exact pregnancy week, day, and trimester - on the home screen, on a widget, at a glance.
There's no account to create, no symptom log to fill in, and no medical content to wade through.
Just the one piece of information that's surprisingly hard to keep in your head: what week is it, right now.
Why I built it
When my partner was pregnant with our first child, I kept losing track of what week we were in.
I'd ask her. She'd tell me. And I'd forget again.
I figured a pregnancy tracker app could help me stay on top of it and feel more involved.
So I went looking for an app to fix it, and tried most of the big names on the App Store.
Every single one left me cold. Some looked like they hadn't been touched in years. Others were fine for what they were, just completely overwhelming (symptom logs, kick counters, community feeds, screen after screen to dig through for one number).
And almost all of them were, quite obviously, built for the person carrying the baby, not for me. I went into a lot more detail on exactly what I found in a full review of pregnancy apps for dads on the blog, if you want the receipts.
None of them gave me what I actually wanted, which was something straightforward. So I sat down and wrote out exactly what that would look like: one screen, the current week, the day, the trimester, nothing else. Then I gave myself a challenge - build it and ship it. A week later, it was live on the App Store.
I've been improving it ever since - a full timeline, a date calculator, widgets, all built around that same one screen - based on what I and other partners actually reach for. And I've spent a lot of the time since then trying to get the word out to other future dads doing the same mental maths I used to do.
How Nine Months works
- 1 Enter a due date once (first day of her last period or how many weeks along she is).
- 2 See the current week, day, and trimester the moment you open the app.
- 3 Add a home or lock screen widget so the week is visible without opening anything.
- 4 Pick any date - a trip, a scan, a wedding - and instantly see what week it lands on.
- 5 Turn on a weekly reminder if you want a nudge when a new week starts, or leave it off.

Who's behind Nine Months
Nine Months is built and maintained independently by me, Julien - an iOS developer and dad.
There's no team, no investors, and no roadmap set by a boardroom. Just an app I use myself, that I keep improving based on what partners actually ask for.
